And at that moment, when the old Jonathan was in danger of succumbing to despair as the new Mioko, the resignation came. Old Jonathan had been spiritually active all his life, and this helped him in this seemingly hopeless situation. The new Mioko managed to calm herself and decided to leave the decision of her future to what sleep would whisper to her, choosing only the next day. When the new Mioko woke up the next day, she felt reborn. As usual, she had to report to her parents, but when she came into the living room, they weren't there. Surprised and, oddly, also a little worried, she went to their bedroom. After a moment's hesitation, she knocked, but there was no response, not even when she knocked again. She decided to carefully open the door and entered the master bedroom. Both parents manage to go to bed quietly, too quietly actually. She first went to her "mother" and tried to shake her awake. At the same time it became clear to the new Mioko in a flash that both "parents" had died in their sleep. There was no one else in the house. In a flash she realized what she had to do. She arranged the funeral and at the same time hired a real estate agent to sell the house and find her a new apartment in another town. A new, hopeful future dawned for the new Mioko.
After settlement of the sale and purchase, which brought her a considerable sum of money, followed by the final move, she started a new life in the other place, where she quickly found a good, pleasant job. A few weeks later she read an obituary in the newspaper of the real estate agent who had helped her. He had died of a hereditary heart condition. The new Mioko let this message sink in, and then realized that she really had a new life and a new future. Shortly after, her phone rang, a somewhat shy, but very nice, unassuming colleague, inviting her to dinner. She agreed wholeheartedly, her heart leaping for joy. For the new Mioko then realized that the old Mioko had failed to take into account one fact: the "old" Jonathan was spiritually active, and his spirituality was rooted in his genuine love for man and creation. All this was part of his being, and stayed with him during the forced, involuntary swap. At the same time he prayed that his former fiancée Shelly would have succeeded in making the "new" Jonathan a better person.... .
